How to Watch Premier League Abroad Using a VPN

Watch Premier League using VPN

If you enjoy football and especially if you’re a fan of the English Premiership then there’s one show you should always try and watch – Match of the Day. It’s available online but unfortunately only if you’re based in the United Kingdom. However there is hope and a method that sports fans from all over the world can use to watch it every week at no cost.  I’ve used this method from all over Europe from France, Turkey to Portugal and it always works.

Watch Premier League Outside the UK

Here’s how you can watch the Premier League outside the UK online –

  1. Find a VPN service to use (we use NordVPN)
  2. Select a UK Server and Connect
  3. Go to BBC iPlayer and Create an Account (Use a UK Postcode)
  4. Stream Match of the Day from archive or live.

It’s that simple and so easy I talked an 80 year old grandfather through the process over the phone.   He wanted to watch when he’d travelled to watch the rugby in Dublin, surprisingly you also need to use this method to access the BBC iPlayer from Ireland too. So don’t be worried about all this talk about VPNs, proxies and IP addresses, basically you click on a UK flag and then stream it you your desktop.

Demonstrating How to Watch the Premier League Outside the UK Online

In fact it’s far easier to see in a video – this one is hosted on YouTube called Match of the Day Online Outside UK

That’s literally how easy it is and you can use many different VPNs too, although many don’t work with the BBC anymore so check first.  Nord VPN is my favorite basically for several important reasons – it’s very cheap and it works.   They have a traditional VPN client or you can use either the browser extension or the Smart DNS system included to for the BBC.

Remember you can watch Match of the Day live, it’s generally on Saturday Evening about 11pm GMT. You can also watch it live from 8:00 AM the next morning.  After that there will be a slight delay before it appears on the BBC archive but only for a few days.  Although the BBC usually stores it’s shows for 12 months after on BBC iPlayer, there are different rules for the football.  Match of the Day 2 is generally on Sunday or Monday evening after the news and shows highlights of other Premiership matches.  However it won’t stay online for longer than a week so catch it as soon as you can!

Match of the day doesn’t have broadcasting rights to any live matches so if you want to watch these then you’ll need a cable/satellite subscription.  You can use these from outside the United Kingdom too, but you’ll have to enable the UK VPN first and pay the hefty subscriptions fees.   However pretty much all the best UK TV is available for free when you have a VPN to access.

Using a VPN also allows you access to all the other great stuff on BBC iPlayer which is a treasure trove of entertainment, news, politics and current affairs.
