What is Love Island?

Well, Love Island is a British reality TV show that has been running in it’s current format since 2015. It actually started initially in 2005/2006 but has been reinvented in it’s current guise. The show is essentially a dating competition where a group of single people live together in a villa and couple up as the series progresses. The goal is to be the last couple standing and win a cash prize. Sometimes winning is that important, as many people have made very successful careers by just being on the show.

You can watch Love island abroad

The concept has been copied around the world with a host of similar titles like Love Island Australia – some though have different names. Love Island USA is also extremely popular and actually available on ITV Hub as well.

Important Youth Culture Influence

It’s hard to underestimate both the popularity and influence of the entire Love Island franchise. In 2018 it became the most watched show in ITV2 history a record it still holds today. If you analyse the target audience age range of 18-34 years then it’s popularity is even higher. It has many critics though for a variety of reasons mostly involving mental health issues and the pressures it places on young people to look like the people in the show.

There have been a few incidents to warrant this concern, four suicides involving people related to the show. Including of course the previous presenter Caroline Flack who died in February 2020. The show has tried to promote mental health support and priorities in response to these incidents.

All this though has done little to spoil the show’s popularity with the younger generation. New shows have been scheduled with a ‘special series’ based in South Africa next on the agenda before returning to the original Mallorca base.

When is Love Island on?

Love Island is a British dating reality show that is typically aired in the summer months although a Winter special is planned in 2022/2023. The show follows a group of single people who are living together in a villa in Mallorca, Spain, and are trying to find love. The show is full of drama, romance, and often, heartbreak.

Schedules for the show vary but the shows are readily available online. The easiest (and cheapest) way to access is via ITV website and app – ITV Hub. Currently the vast majority of the shows are available on ITV Hub – with nearly 400 episodes online to watch.

Where is Love Island filmed?

Love Island is filmed on the beautiful island of Mallorca, Spain. The show is filmed in a luxurious villa, and the contestants are able to enjoy the sunny weather and stunning scenery while they search for love.

Occasionally other locations will be used – for example the Winter special in 2023 is to be held in South Africa.

How Can I watch Love Island Abroad?

If you’re looking to catch up on the latest season of Love Island while you’re abroad, there are a few different ways you can do it. The ITV Hub website is not normally accessible from outside the United Kingdom normally although there are some methods around this.

Use a VPN Online

One option is to use a VPN, which will allow you to connect to a server in the UK and watch the show through the ITV Hub.

It’s actually quite simple and easy to do as long as you get a VPN that isn’t blocked by ITV which some are. Here’s an example of how it’s done –

VPN Connecting to ITV Hub

Here we’ll use probably the most popular (and cheapest VPNs) NordVPN to access ITV Hub.

As you can see when you connect your VPN to a UK server then you can bypass all these geo-blocks. The website will only see the IP address of the VPN server not your real one. So you can use this technique to effectively change your location and watch any UK only content including the BBC iPlayer too.

Stream Season from Amazon Prime

Another option is to stream from a site like Amazon Prime Video. You used to be able to buy a pass for the show, but in the UK this has now been replaced by an ITV Hub subscription service. In the UK there’s not much point doing this as all of the series are available for free on ITV Hub directly. Although you will have to suffer the advertisements on standard ITV Hub.

Best Solution – Why Everyone Uses VPNs

They certainly sound very technical and complicated – after all VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. However the reality is that the new generation of VPN services are actually very simple to use. Remember this is the preferred method for hundreds of thousands of elderly ex-pats who use a VPN to enjoy Coronation Street while relaxing on the Costa Del Sol.

Most of the mainstream VPN services have implemented very easy to use interfaces which require no real technical knowledge at all. In fact the main ones are pretty much point and click

NordVPN interface - Pick a country

Change Your IP Address to Anywhere

The reason that VPNs work so well is that they allow you to keep your real location completely private. When you visit any web site, it will attempt to determine your location from your IP address. However if you’re using a VPN it will only see the IP address of the VPN server you are connected to. So if this server is based in the UK then the site will presume you’re in the UK too.  So you watch from anywhere in the world – stream the BBC in France or ITV player in Australia – it really doesn’t matter where you actually are.

This is basically all there is to it, you use a VPN to hide your location and just pick the country you need.

Access All UK Streaming Service Sites – e.g. BBC iPlayer

It’s important to remember that your VPN can be used for a lot more than just accessing ITV Hub. Nearly every major UK  TV media site operates in exactly the same way – i.e. blocking access to people not from the UK. So when you’re using a UK VPN server you can actually access any UK only website exactly the same as anyone actually in the country.

The biggest and probably one of the best media sites on the planet is of course from the BBC. The BBC iPlayer was one of the vey first media sites to provide direct streaming services and it’s certainly one of the best web sites anywhere. Not only can you watch eleven live streaming TV channels which mostly broadcast 24/7 you can also access a huge archive of programmes already broadcast.

There are other UK TV sites like Channel 4, Channel 5 too which also have some great TV sites with all sorts of content.  So you can watch any British TV channel overseas without a problem. Not forgetting other non-media sites which may also be blocked – an example is the many UK based online betting or gambling sites which are also normally restricted outside the country. They all should be accessible if you choose the right VPN service and create accounts on each site as if you are in the UK.

Watch Online Love Island from Different Countries too

The great thing about these VPNs when you start using them is that they don’t just unlock a single country. The best VPNs offer servers all over the world in their basic subscriptions so you can switch to them too. That means you can unlock TV sites in those countries too – watch TV sites in any country in the world. There’s some brilliant sites in the US, Australia, New Zealand and Canada which you can access. Watch Love Island Australia, Love Island USA and many other variants on your media streaming devices irrespective of your location.

Which VPN Should I Use ?

A few years ago it really didn’t matter that much, you could pretty much grab any VPN or even proxy and it would work. The basic requirement was that the server you connected to was based in the UK and everything would work ok. You could even use one of the free ones which were around which was even better. Unfortunately those days are long gone now.

Try NordVPN

We use NordVPN – basically because it’s cheap , fast and works well with all the major streaming services and includes access to servers in over 50 countries. They have a money-back guarantee you can use if you have problems though. You can access all the major programmes including even Love Island Australia if you use their Australian VPN servers. They also have great email and chat customer support too.

What is the Love Island prize?

The Love Island prize is a cash prize that is awarded to the winning couple of the show. The prize money is typically split between the two winners, and it is usually a large sum of money.IN reality the real money is to be made in future careers and opportunities enabled by the show.

Mostly the UK versions usually offer around £50,000 for the winning couple with a twist at the end. The last few series have offered the winners two envelopes – one with nothing and the other with the full £50,000. The winner is offered the choice of keeping all the money or sharing it with their winning partner. So far every couple has ended up sharing the money with no-one opting to take the lot.

Good? Gives you some faith in human nature that all are willing to share? Possibly although it’s well known that the real money is to be made by the various opportunities offered by the show. These would probably be hugely reduced by being utterly selfish and mean by taking the full prize money!

How many series of Love Island have there been?

Since its debut in 2015, Love Island has become one of the most popular reality TV shows in the world. The show follows a group of single people who are looking for love, and each series lasts for around eight weeks. There have been previously seven series of Love Island so far, and the eighth has just complete in August 2022.

FAQ – Watching UK TV Abroad

Below we’re putting some answers to questions we’ve received on this site. They’re in no particular order and mostly relate to being able to access UK TV sites and using VPNs.

Do I have to register for ITV/BBC ?

Yes you have to create an account on both ITV Hub and BBC iPlayer to watch in 2022. It’s not a problem though the accounts are free and there’s no difficult questions. You will need a valid email address and answer a couple of questions but it’s a quick and simple process. You do have to enable your VPN and connect to a UK based VPN server before registering though – Sign up – ITV Hub or BBC Registration Page.

I need a UK Postcode for BBC/ITV but don’t live in UK !

You do need to input a UK postcode to register on both these sites. However you don’t have to actually live at the postcode you provide. There’s no check or verification process and as long as the postcode is valid then everything will work fine. Just use any valid UK postcode you know or find online – or there’s some on this page you can use too – Where to Find a Fake BBC iPlayer Postcode to Watch Abroad (iplayerabroad.com)

I’ve Heard that VPNs are blocked by the BBC and ITV and don’t work ?

Many of the biggest streaming platforms including the BBC and ITV have started trying to block VPN access it’s true. Mainly to protect their profits and prevent copyright violation through their catch-up service sites. They do this mainly by monitoring the number of inbound connections from specific IP addresses. It’s true that in 2022 these efforts have stopped the majority of VPNs from working with many media sites like ITV but some still work.

The few major VPNs like NordVPN all still work fine as they have the ability to monitor and manage outbound connections plus switch IP addresses to ‘fly under the radar’.

So How Do I Watch Love Island Abroad?

To Watch Love Islas from anywhere you need to hide your IP address and make it look like you’re in the United Kingdom. Connect to a UK based VPN server, register on the ITV Hub site and you can be watching in minutes. There’s currently 390 episodes of Love Island available on the ITV site.
